Ballands Bowmen Open Shoot Sunday 13th May 2012

Message from our Chairman

I would like to thank everyone who helped to make the shoot on Sunday a great success. There is much work that goes into organising the shoot before the event as well as on the day. It was great to see our newer members getting involved and hopefully will again in October. The feed back from the archers who attended was very complimentary.

Once again many thanks to everyone.

Regards

Marleen Toomer

Scottish Champs, well done to Marleen, Penny & Chris who travelled up north, without passports to raid over the board, returning with ladies barebow silver, gold in both ladies & men's freestyle.

We really should travel in larger numbers when that far from home guys, it ain't safe over the wall, why do you think Hadrian built it ;)

Ballands triumph at Barebow Championships

Ballands’ barebow aces Lizzy Rees and Evie Rawlings claimed the senior and junior titles at the tenth annual British Barebow Indoor Championship, shooting the FITA 18 round at the Memorial Hall on Sunday.

In the Ladies Championship, a blistering start by Lizzy was pegged back on the second dozen by a brilliant 113 from fellow GB field international Victoria Kalmaru (Red Kite). Both archers remained locked together over the next two dozen until Lizzy, shooting in her first senior Championship at the age of 17, closed with a fine 103 to Vic’s 96, and took the coveted title by seven points. Ballands’ Jane Rees took third.

Meanwhile, Evie, shooting in the u14 category, easily outshot the opposition in all junior age groups to defeat second placed Mari Jones (Warfield) by a healthy margin of 40 points, with a score would have taken seventh place in the senior championship.

Richard Burridge (Yelverton) successfully defended his men’s title by a comfortable margin from Somerset’s James Annall (Bath University). His score of 531 was the third highest in the ten years of the competition and secured the trophy for highest overall Championship score.

Junior Men's Champion, Andrew Brimer (Radnor Foresters) defeated last year’s champion, Ben Wong (Mere Archers), who paid the price for a poor start and could not pull back Andrew’s consistent shooting, despite an outstanding third dozen of 108.

England, with a team of three individual champions, Richard, Lizzy and Evie, easily secured the Home Nations Championship, with Wales in second place, whilst Ballands took the Club Championship (Evie Rawlings, Lizzy Rees & Andrew Rees) and the Married Couples Trophy (Jane & Andrew Rees).

A record 195 archers entered the event, which was staged at six venues across the British Isles, including Wincanton in Somerset.
